Failed Air Filter Causes Mass Airflow Problems

This video of a Chevy Silverado shows the inside of the air filter box clogged with debris from a failed aftermarket, high-performance, reusable air filter. This dirty air filter began disintegrating inside the air filter box and caused problems with the mass airflow sensor, causing it to report incorrect values to the ECM (engine control module/computer). This caused a driveability problem making a very rough run condition! The air filter needed replacing with an OEM-designed disposable paper filter, and fortunately, we were able to clean and reuse the mass airflow sensor, getting the fuel controls back into specification and restoring proper engine performance.
