Loose Ball Joints and Control Arms–Safety Issue!!

This middle-aged Chevy S.U.V. is driven daily and came in for a routine state inspection. During the required steering/suspension check, we found both front upper ball joints and control arms dangerously worn. These components are supposed to be tight with no play. As you can see in the video below, they are dangerously loose and destined to come apart, which will result in a complete loss of steering and control while driving. Failure appears to be imminent and could happen at any speed under any condition (straight, turns, potholes, etc.). Although a pricey repair, likely $800 or more, it is absolutely necessary for the safety of both the driver and others on the road and will not pass Virginia inspection.
